WELCOME

Serving the Florida Dairy Goat Community Since 1975

Dairy goats are the ideal family dairy animal.

They are small, alert, intelligent, and easily handled.

Kept on even the smallest of properties, goats return the cost of their feed in

economically produced, delicious, and nutritious milk. Loving and very

social animals, goats quickly learn their names will readily answer when

called, and thrive on love, attention, and good care.

                                                                                                                                                                        OUR PURPOSE

The purpose of the Florida Dairy Goat Association is to promote the Dairy Goat and it's products in a positive and productive manner through a cooperative and educational statewide club.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Friends,

First of all I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank those of you who took the time to cast your ballot this year. Approximately 61% of the membership voted and that is impressive! Thank you for your confidence in electing me as your FDGA President, I will do the best job I can.

Secondly, I wish to thank the previous board for all their hard work. If you have never served on the FDGA Board, you have no idea of the dedication it takes, hours required for phone calls, e-mails, travel time and expense to attend board and social meetings. Great job and thanks to each and every one of you!

Although I was not conference chair, Laura Pierson asked me to add a few comments regarding our 30th FDGA conference. It was outstanding!

All presentations were well attended on both days with Mary Jane Toth’s cheesemaking classes presented to a “Packed House”. Our Wine and Cheese Fest created by Regina and David Briskey with help from Regina’s daughter, Jessica was FIRST CLASS all the way, with the variety of cheeses brought by our members and some of the Georgia folks being the best I can ever remember.

We had attendees from Florida, Georgia and even South Carolina. Sadly it was our last year probably to work with Dr. Jack Gaskin as he is retiring. He will be sorely missed and will always be a very important part of hour association history!

I am very excited with our current FDGA Board with a mixture of those new to our board with new and inspiring ideas, along with some of us “old-timers” to offer suggestions and past experience. We are all ready to roll up our sleeves and work for you.

Our first FDGA Board meeting was held at Kelley and Danny Hines lovely home on June 29th. You will find the complete minutes in this newsletter, but I wanted to touch on a couple of items that I am very excited about.

1.     Florida will be divided into five districts with a volunteer district leader in each district who will be responsible for conducting or arranging social/workshop meetings in their district quarterly.

2.      FDGA membership directory will be re-established for all FDGA members.

3.      FDGA will be incorporated.

4.      Welcome Packet will be mailed to all new members.

5.     Open Board meetings with agenda presented to the membership prior to meeting. Members are encouraged to review the agenda and if there is anything they would like added to the agenda, that would need to be directed to me at least two weeks in advance. During the meeting, a member after being recognized by the President, may present their views/comments per that item on the agenda for three (3) minutes before the board votes on that item. Please see page 28 for more information.

6.     Committee chairs/volunteers will be selected from the entire FDGA membership. Please see enclosed form in this newsletter and if you would like to serve on a committee, please let me know via telephone or e-mail ASAP. Thanks

7.     All FDGA members will be contacted by board volunteers via telephone to answer a short survey about what you, as a member would like us to do. So expect a phone call from myself, Kathy Autry, Kathy Lott, Toni Perez, Kelley Hines, Carol Preiss or Joann Jackson. If you do not receive a call by August 15th, please let me know, as we do not have everyone’s phone number.

8.     All future FDGA board meetings will be taped to preserve our history and ensue accuracy of the meeting.

We hope to see everyone at Rainbow Springs on August 17th for day of good food, friends and even some games this year! As always, every board member is here to serve you and are dedicated to make the Florida Dairy Goat Association the best it can be. Please feel free to contact any of us!

 In Your Service, Jan
