The 30th FDGA Goat Production Conference was a fantastic success!
Mary Jane Toth, noted author and cheese maker, was our featured
speaker. People from South Carolina, Georgia, and all parts of
Florida were in attendance at her workshops.
There were several other speakers giving presentations on many
topics dealing with goat production--everything from herd health to
the selling of raw milk. These presentations were also well attended
and enjoyed by all. The wine and cheese social was an event to
remember!
The
cheeses were numerous and-oh!--so good! (There is an article about
the contest winners. Please look further in this newsletter.) Sunday
events included goat packing information, and a most marvelous
demonstration of goat carting There were other hands on activities
dealing with the various aspects of goat husbandry.
A special thank you goes to the battalion of volunteers who freely
gave their time and expertise. Without them, the conference wouldn't
happen.
Finally, we give a HUGE HUG and THANK YOU to Dr. Jack Gaskin, our
mentor and hero, who made this event possible. After 30+ years at UF,
he will retire July 31st. He will be truly missed by goat enthusiast
throughout Florida.
